A special collaboration with RVW’s school, Charterhouse,
bringing the Britten Sinfonia together with the brightest of the
school’s current cohort of musicians for a performance in the awe-inspiring
Memorial Chapel, in a programme including An Oxford Elegy, Fantasia on a
Theme of Thomas Tallis and the world premiere of a specially
commissioned new arrangement by David Matthews of Romance &
Pastorale (directed from the violin by Alexander Sitkovetsky).

Charterhouse pupils play alongside the musicians of Britten Sinfonia, directed by leader Thomas Gould, in the St Paul Suite and Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis, and the school’s Chapel Choir performs in The Old 100th, An Oxford Elegy and Tallis anthems, conducted by Charterhouse Director of Music Mark Shepherd.
As an optional extra, there is a pre-concert reception in Hall at 6pm to enjoy a glass of wine, a talk by the school’s Head of Academic Music, Dr Russell Millard, and the rare opportunity to view RVW artefacts from the Charterhouse archives.
